Before the 1900s, José Luis Verdía Street was known as “Cypress street,” and the name of the project honors the historical and cultural heritage of this neighborhood.
The Ciprés 293 project seeks to transform a historically significant, long-abandoned single-family home into a vibrant mixed-use development comprising 11 apartments and one commercial space. Rooted on the original layout of the house on José Luis Verdía 293, this project represents the long-term vision to contribute to the ongoing repopulation and revitalization of the historic center.
The Analco neighborhood holds deep historical significance as the first area settled by the Spanish in late 1530s. By the 1630s, the neighborhood had been mostly populated by indigenous settlers and was stigmatized as unsafe and undesirable. Despite this history, Analco has long supplied the workers who built the city we know today, and a vital hub for popular housing. The Ciprés 293 project, aims to establish a sustainable housing model that not only restores residential life to this historically significant neighborhood but also honors its tradition of providing affordable housing.
Of the 11 planned apartments, at least six are designated for low-income rentals, with priority given to senior residents on the ground floor and young families on the upper floors. A key objective of the project is to develop a sustainable financing framework for adequate, affordable, and socially-oriented housing in Guadalajara’s city center. By addressing both the historical and social dimensions of urban development, Ciprés 293 aspires to serve as a model for inclusive housing initiatives that balance cultural and architectural preservation with contemporary needs.
