The Humboldt 297 property is thought to contain the last remaining portion of a larger property that was potentially built in the late 1800s and that has not been modified over the years. The originally built adobe structure must have occupied a good portion of the current block and has been divided into different properties, most of these adjacent properties have changed the structure or façade leaving no trace of the original building, but this small corner of that larger house still remains.
The property had been used as a shoe factory storage for nearly 30 years until the early 2000s, when it suffered some modifications to adapt it into a housing unit. In 2022, the property was intervened by reHabitar to preserve and restore what was left of the original structure, after nearly 20 years of misuse and systematic destruction.
In 2023, Humboldt 297 was awarded a honorable mention in the XX Anual Price for Conservation and Restoration of Heritage valuable properties, organized by the Municipality of Guadalajara. Based on its participation, in 2023 it was also reclassified from its Environmental Artistic Value to a Historical Monument given its high historical, cultural and architectural heritage. Humboldt 297 has once more entered the XXII Annual Price for Conservation and Restoration of Properties with Heritage Value. The prizes will be awarded in a ceremony that will take place in mid February 2025.
